Live Music–29 December

December 30, 2007

I was at the weekly showcase at Freestar Bay, last night. I usually go if I can, the musicians that perform at that particular venue are usually very good. Last night’s show included Paisley Beede, Preciousse Moody and Julian2914 Hifeng, among others.

It was a typically fine program, with a variety of musical styles. Freestar Tammas, who owns the place, knows how to get the best musicians. Of course, she has a great deal of help in the person of her assistant, AutumnFoxx Sutherland. [Full disclosure: Autumn is my SL daughter. So yes, I’m a little biased.]

I am impressed with how much goes into such a show, there are hours of preparation involved. It’s not just a matter of people showing up at the sim, plugging in their stream, and starting to sing. The musicians have to be booked, just like RL. They have to be notified when it’s time to go onstage; they need help, sometimes, with their sound equiptment. It’s a very involved process.

But the results, when all is said and done, are delightful. If you enjoy live music, you should really check out the concert scene in Second Life. There is rock and roll, blues, jazz, pop standards, instrumentals, classical; and the list goes on. It is quite remarkable. Now, I have heard some acts that are not that good, but there are enough of the good ones that you shouldn’t be disappointed very often. And of course, if you know of a good venue–like Freestar Bay–that is staffed with people who know what they’re doing, then you have a guarantee of a good listening experience.

I don’t have the slurl of Freestar Bay handy atm, but you should be able to find it in Search. If anyone has it, I would appreciate it if you would put the slurl in the comments for this post. Thanks.

Hello world!

Hi there. This is a first post for a blog, and is meant for establishing the blog.  More pertinent posts will follow.

Further Information

December 29, 2007

I have another webpage, of sorts, concerning my Second Life. It is on the website known as SLprofiles.com. SLprofiles is, for want of a better description, a MySpace of Facebook type of site, except that it is for Second Life residents only. It can be accessed by the public, but only SL residents can put pages there.

On my page, you will find a list of my friends, their comments to me, a (brief) description of what I do in SL, and plenty of advertisements for goods and services in world. You will find even more on the pages of my friends, including music, pictures taken in world, and other stuff of interest to SL residents.

But I suspect that all this will be of interest to those who are not involved in Second Life, or else why make this a public site? If you ever wondered what it was like to participate in a metaverse such as SL, then the personalized pages that SLprofiles provides will give you at least a glimmer of an idea. Please feel free to look over the various pages of me and my friends.
